Sleeping bag shapes and fill materials
Montbell offers different series with unique features, combining 3 types of shapes and 3 types of fill materials.
Mummy shape
Shaped to fit the body. Covering up to the head, it fits snugly with minimal gaps between the body, making it difficult for body heat to escape and providing high thermal performance. It is primarily designed for mountaineering use, balancing lightweight compactness with comfort.
- Recommended uses: Mountain climbing / Camping / Touring, etc.
Down model : Lightweight with high thermal performance, compact storage
Synthetic Insulation model : Resistant to moisture, maintains warmth
A model that supports a good night's sleep with moisture resistance, excellent thermal performance, and stretch properties
Rectangular (envelope) type
Rectangular in shape, it offers more room compared to mummy-style bags, with ample space around the body and wider foot area, providing a futon-like comfort. When the L-shaped zipper on the side is fully opened, it transforms into a large blanket (for use as a comforter or mattress). Its versatility makes it suitable for family camping, car camping, and other similar activities.
- Recommended uses: Camping / Car camping, etc.
Down model : Lightweight with high thermal performance, compact storage
Synthetic Insulation model : Resistant to moisture, maintains warmth
Due to restrictions that vary by jurisdiction, not all products may be available to the specified "Ship to" location.
Hybrid construction
A hybrid type that combines the snug fit of a mummy-style sleeping bag with the spaciousness of an envelope-style bag. It features an L-shaped zipper that opens wide, allowing it to be spread out and used like a blanket. Highly versatile, it's suitable for camping and car camping, while the down model is also appropriate for mountaineering use.
- Recommended uses: Mountaineering when no snow is present/ Camping / Car camping, etc.
Down model : lightweight with high thermal performance and compact storage
Synthetic insulation model : Resistant to moisture and maintains insulation
Temperature Guide
Montbell has established a 7-level index from EXP. to #7 for all sleeping bags, setting both a 'Limit Rating' and a 'Comfort Rating' for each. Models with smaller numbers have higher amounts of insulation and suited for lower temperatures, while models with larger numbers are suitable for use when temperatures are higher. The 'temperature usage guide' is based on the 'Comfort Rating' of each sleeping bag model.
'EXP.' stands for Expedition and indicates the highest cold resistance rating.
