He sent a letter of intent called Outdoor GIENTAI to outdoor-related companies and organizations throughout Japan, asking for their cooperation in relief efforts. Soon, donated relief supplies arrived from all over Japan, and volunteers rushed to the affected areas to teach people how to pitch tents, tie ropes, and other know-how needed for living outdoors. The experience, knowledge, and functional tools needed for outdoor activities proved to be indispensable in times of need.
